Severe toothache can be a sign that the pulp inside a tooth has become irreversibly inflamed or infected, often as a result of deep decay, cracks or trauma. In these situations, root canal treatment can relieve pain and help preserve the natural tooth.

During treatment, the inflamed or infected tissue inside the tooth is carefully removed. The root canals are then cleaned, shaped and disinfected before being sealed to reduce the risk of further infection.

We use modern endodontic technology to improve accuracy and efficiency throughout treatment. This includes electronic apex locators to help determine the length of each root canal, together with rotary nickel-titanium instruments that allow the canals to be carefully cleaned and shaped.

After root canal treatment, the tooth will usually require a strong final restoration — and in some cases a crown — to help protect it and restore normal function.
